CHA Elevator Modernization Program

About The Project

The Elevator Modernization Program for the Chicago Housing Authority requires all elevators in their buildings to be upgraded with new equipment, controllers, and cab finishes. In addition all elevator shafts and machine rooms are to be modified to bring them to current code standards. These current code standards include elevator Sump Pits, HVAC upgrades, Fire Alarm Upgrades, Electrical upgrades, and code compliant handrails and safety ladders. In addition, any abatement in these areas are mitigated.

Elevator Package #1-included two buildings Castleman and Hedger. Castleman included the modernization of two, 22 stop elevators. Hedger included the modernization of three, 26 stop elevators. Each building was complete in 2019.

Elevator Package #5-includes four buildings, each building with two elevators totaling 94 stops. Package #5 work began at the end of January 2021.

Elevator Package #16-includes five buildings, with seven elevators totaling 62 stops. The preconstruction review is complete with CHA and is pending final board approval.

Elevator Package #17-includes four buildings, with seven elevators totaling 56 stops. The preconstruction review is complete with CHA and is pending final board approval.
